Jon Rahm has pledged to discuss his idea of holding a links tournament before The Open with LIV Golf colleagues. Rahm, 29, had a less than stellar performance at the major, tying for seventh place as Xander Schauffele claimed victory with an impressive final round.

The Spaniard struggled with the challenging conditions on the Scottish links, particularly during the first round. Fans will remember his disaster on the ninth hole when he thought he had perfectly played into the wind, only to watch in dismay as the weather shifted and sent his ball flying into some bushes.

After what proved to be a disappointing weekend for him, Rahm wants LIV to enact a huge change to their schedule for next year.

In a conversation with Golf Digest, Rahm said: "I'm pushing for it. There's so much that goes into adjusting to links golf; getting used to the greens and the ball reacting on the ground."I didn't think about it until after [Troon], but it's undeniable how much it helps to play a links golf course the week before the Open."Rahm, who defected to the LIV rebels in December 2023 after agreeing a deal worth up to a purported £450m, is yet to lift the Claret Jug.
