A leading Nigeria publication have expressed their surprise over the decision to substitute Joe Aribo in their gritty 0-0 draw with Ghana.
All Nigeria Soccer gave the Ibrox favourite a rating of 7.5/10 - the highest mark they awarded to any Super Eagles player on a night about result rather than performance. But Aribo was the first to be sacrificed as he made way for Brentford star Frank Onyeka in the 60th minute.Rangers team-mate Calvin Bassey made his international debut as he came off the bench for Zaidu Sanusi in the 74th minute.
Leon Balogun played the full 90 minutes. The ibrox left-back was praised for his debut but it was Aribo's early night which caught they eye.ANS wrote: "Should have scored in the 40th minute but couldn't keep his shot down.
Surprisingly substituted on the hour mark."They also hailed his "battling performance" but did note he struggled with the physicality on display in Ghanian engine room.
