The Lanterns DCU series is putting together a crack team of writers, based on a wonderful pilot script and bible by Chris Mundy, Tom King, and Damon Lindelof,” Gunn shared on Instagram. “A hearty welcome to Chris and @damonlindelof as they join the DC Studios family (no welcome necessary for old @tomking_tk, who has been here nearly since inception).” A post shared by James Gunn (@jamesgunn) Lindelof received critical acclaim for his work in 2019’s Watchmen.
The DC Comics series at HBO won the 2020 Emmy for Outstanding Limited Series, plus acting awards for Regina King and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.
Mundy is known for shows like True Detective and Ozark, while Tom King has written for DC comics for many years. Lanterns was one of the projects that Gunn announced at the beginning of 2023 to be in development.
