The cost of living crisis has forced many people to tighten their belts, especially students. Fortunately, there is a wide range of support available to them, including extra cash from the government in the form of cost of living payments.
The payments make up a government support scheme that sees people receiving means-tested benefits get up to £900 in 2023/24, with the first payment of £301 going out during the summer.
According to the government, students can also receive this if they claim a qualifying benefit such as Universal Credit. However, it may be more difficult for a student to claim Universal Credit than it would be otherwise. Otherwise, they can claim if they are responsible for a child or already receive one of the following: Student income also has a direct effect on how much Universal Credit you receive - this will be assessed by the DWP.
