House of the Dragon is coming back with Season 2 soon, and it’s going to have less episodes than the first season.

In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, director Claire Kilner spoke out about the episode count for Season 2 of the hit HBO series, a prequel spinoff of Game of Thrones.

If you didn’t know, the show was renewed for a second season back in August 2022, just six days after its premiere. In March of 2023, it was revealed that the second season would consist of eight episodes, as opposed to 10 episodes in the first season. Keep reading to find out more… According to Claire, Season 2 has “eight wonderful episodes with so much happening in every episode, and we have trouble, at times, bringing them down to one hour.” She added that showrunner Ryan Condal made the choice “to give it a good opening and a good ending,” and she promised that the installments are “jam-packed with emotional and visually exciting events.” This coincides with reports that the 8-episode run had been trimmed in order to service the story.

New House of the Dragon episodes are not likely to air until 2024. Find out which HBO shows have been renewed, and which ones have been canceled so far in 2023.
