A woman has spoken of her horror after rescuing a cat found covered in gruesome third degree burns at a car wash. At 9am on Sunday, June 2 Katie Hayes, who runs the cat charity Pawpurrs Halfway House, received a panicked phone call from a man who said he had seen a cat running out of a car wash ‘crying in distress’.

I deal with a lot of cats that are in a really terrible mess but this was something else. I was so distressed and upset. “The whole lower half of his back was severely scolded,” she said.

Katie claims she asked staff at the car wash who owned the cat and that they said it belonged to their boss. “The cat had clearly been burnt by some kind of substance and they had just left it.
