Home experts share fan trick that helps to keep you cool during heatwave

Despite it being September and the beginning of autumn, the UK is currently basking in heatwave-like conditions.Temperatures in Scotland are expected to peak at 28C by the end of the week, and while this is good news for sunbathers, many more will be concerned about the impact the warm weather is having on a good night's sleep.It can be difficult to settle down for the night when you're constantly tossing, turning and unable to stay cool.

But home experts have revealed a simple hack you can do with your fan in order to make it more efficient.Nick Small from AO has offered his tips on keeping cool this week as the heatwave in the UK surges on.And since most UK homes aren't equipped with air conditioning, homeowners will have to resort to alternative methods to stay cool and comfortable.The expert says you can essentially make your own aircon at home with a simple container of ice and a fan.

He said: "Place a container of ice in front of your fan and lay down a towel underneath to absorb any condensation. The ice-cold air will circulate and cool you cool." As well as this, Nick has recommended another couple of tips to help you beat the heatwave and cool down as the mercury soars. Freeze your sheets There’s nothing worse than not being able to sleep if you’re too hot.

Why not try popping your bed sheets in a plastic bag in the freezer and put them back on before bedtime to ensure you have a cool summer nights sleep. Switch up your hot water bottle Although it keeps us toasty warm in winter, if you fill a hot water bottle 3/4 full and pop in the fridge or freezer until your desired coolness then take it to bed with you.
