Here's Why 'Oppenheimer' Movie Received an R Rating - Christopher Nolan's First Since 2002's 'Insomnia'

Christopher Nolan‘s first three movies were all rated R, but he hasn’t made one with that rating since 2002′s Insomnia.

The acclaimed director’s new movie Oppenheimer has officially received an R rating and will mark his first in over 20 years.

The movie is being released on July 21 and will have a run time of three hours. Tickets are already on sale for the IMAX engagements, as well as premium formats like 70mm, 35mm, and Dolby Cinema.

So, why is the movie rated R? Keep reading to find out more… Deadline reports that the movie received the rating for “some sexuality, nudity, and language.” Nolan recently talked to the Associated Press about why fans should see the movie on the big screen. “You rarely get the chance to really talk to moviegoers directly about why you love a particular format and why if they can find an IMAX screen to see the film on that’s great,” Nolan said. “We put a lot of effort into shooting the film in a way that we can get it out on these large format screens.
