The Prince of Wales has taken the next leap forward in shining a light on the homelessness problem that plagues the UK with the launch of Homewards. The project, which has taken two years to put together, is a five-year locally led programme which will demonstrate that together it is possible to end homelessness: making it 'rare, brief, and unrepeated'.To get Homewards off to a flying start, Prince William embarked on a 48-hour tour of the UK where he visited six flagship locations which will be the first to benefit from the scheme.

These areas are Lambeth in South London, Bournemouth, Newport, Belfast, Aberdeen and Sheffield. The project and its aims have been applauded from all directions, with royal expert Jennie Bond praising it to the skies.

Speaking exclusively to OK!, the former BBC royal correspondent said: "I think William is showing that he is determined to do more than simply pay lip service to the idea that the royal family can make a difference. "I’m impressed by what seems to me to be a fresh, practical approach to problems that have impacted society for generations.

It’s all very well making speeches about homelessness or even going to visit projects to help people who have fallen into this trap. "But William has spent the past two years thinking hard about solutions to homelessness, studying how other countries, for example Finland, have eradicated the problem, and, with the help of experts, has come up with a punchy - and accountable - plan. "I particularly like the essential simplicity of his proposal: Target six areas of the country, give them an initial investment, act as convener for all the necessary parties, bang heads together, join up the dots and give them five years to sort it.
