A 28-year-old man was found asleep at the wheel of his car with a dagger around his neck and a machete in his hand. Scott Simpson was heavily under the influence of drugs when he was found inside a Volkswagen Golf parked in a residential area.

Cocaine weighing 1.3g and £1,400 in cash also discovered in the car on Savick Avenue, on February 14, 2023. The machete was strategically placed between the seat and the car door, so it could be accessed immediately, a court heard today (September 26).

When questioned by police, Simpson claimed he was not the owner of the vehicle. During a hearing at Preston Crown Court, Judge Michael Maher made note of Simpson's 'unenviable' criminal history during the sentencing, pointing out that he had been under post release supervision following a prison term when he committed the latest offence.
