In 2007–08, he served for over ten weeks in Helmand, Afghanistan, but was pulled out after an Australian magazine revealed his presence there. He returned to Afghanistan for a 20-week deployment in 2012–13 with the Army Air Corps. He left the army in June 2015.

It is thought to be the first time in history that not all of the monarch's children will be in attendance, after the couple "have not been invited", according to reports.Trooping the Colour marks the official birthday of the British Sovereign and is one of the major events in the royal calendar that takes place every year.

Hundreds of members of regiments of the British Army gather to take part in the historical ceremony with the new monarch due to ride on horseback for the first time since 1986.

King Charles and Queen Camilla will be back on the royal balcony at Buckingham Palace with other members of the Royal Family playing key roles in the ceremonial day.
