GMP officer accused of misconduct in public court denies allegations

A Greater Manchester Police officer accused of misconduct in public office has denied the allegations against her. PC Choni Kenny, 26, based in GMP's City of Manchester district, is charged with misconduct in public office; conspiracy to commit misconduct in public office; and intentionally encouraging or assisting an inmate possess a mobile phone within a prison.

The offences allegedly happened between April 1, 2021 and June 22 last year. Details of the misconduct charge involve Ms Kenny allegedly failing to notify GMP of her relationships with 'criminal associates'; allegedly accessing police information and intelligence without legitimate purpose; and allegedly sharing information with 'criminal associates' and overlooking known criminality she had a duty to report. The third charge alleges she conducted telephone conversations with a serving prisoner, which she knew he was conducting on an illegal mobile phone and topped up his mobile phones intending to encourage or assist the offence of possessing a mobile phone in prison.

Ms Kenny, of Tennyson Road, Cheadle, Stockport, who has been suspended since her arrest, appeared in the dock at Liverpool Crown Court dressed in a black trouser suit and a low cut white top.
