A gay man living in the UK may be deported back to his home country where LGBTQ+ rights “are virtually non-existent” — all because a judge doesn’t believe he’s “truly gay”. Monsur Ahmed Chowdhury is a 38-year-old man living in the UK.
15 years ago, he was a young man living in the South Asian country of Bangladesh facing persecution over his sexual orientation.
He feared for his life, so he fled! But the safety he benefits from in Britain may be coming to a screeching halt. Metro reported on Sunday that after years of living in the country, Monsur’s asylum application has been rejected by the First-Tier Tribunal immigration court.
In a letter reviewed by the outlet, the judge ruled: WHAT?! The judge argued there’s a “distinct lack of documentary material that might be suggestive that the Appellant was truly a gay man before he sought asylum.” Um, of course there wasn’t!
