Gardening fans share 'best' 30p hack to remove green mould and algae from fences

A nice wooden fence can improve the look of any garden, giving it a rustic and homely feel compared to steel or metal fences.They're also useful for adding a little privacy to your home, but with any wooden structure, things like mould and algae can wreak havoc on them and really ruin their appearance.Giving them a fresh lick of paint every now and then is a good way to keep your fence looking fresh, but this can be costly and not to mention time-consuming.

Thankfully, there's a much quicker way to remove these unsightly green stains - and it costs just 30p to do.The Express reports that one woman, fed up of these stains plaguing her wooden fence, sought help from members of the Gardening UK Facebook page.

She wrote: "How can I get rid of this green algae on our fence? I have tried mould and mildew remover and also, sanding it down and retreating, but it still comes back.”The gardener also shared a photo of the state of her fence, the majority of which seemed to be covered in algae.The comments were soon flooded with people offering their advice on how to get rid of the stains - with white vinegar being the most popular solution.

One person said: "White vinegar mixed with hot water and work it in with a brush and leave for 30 mins or more, then house down. "Repaint when dry with good quality fence paint.
