Galaxy shrinks chocolate bar sizes - but prices increase at the supermarket

Galaxy chocolate is the latest treat to be affected by shrinkflation, as bars have been decreased by 10g - but prices at the supermarket have increased.The owners of the popular chocolate bar, Mars Inc, has confirmed it has had to reduce sizes due to "shrinkflation" and the cost of raw materials, with its Galaxy Smooth Milk Bars being shrunk from 110g to 100g.

Despite the decrease in size, the price in Tesco is now £1.25, despite a 110g bar being priced at 99p last July, reports ChronicleLive.It is not the first popular snack to have been affected by shrinkflation - a practice that allows companies to reduce the size of a product without changing its price in the face off rising production costs.A Galaxy spokesman, said: "We have been actively trying to find ways to absorb the rising costs of raw materials and operations, as we know the increase in the cost of living has impacted both consumers and businesses across the UK."Unfortunately, the growing pressures mean that more needs to be done.

Reducing the size of our products is not a decision we have taken lightly but it is necessary for shoppers to still be able to enjoy their favourite Galaxy treats without compromising on quality or taste."Cadbury was also affected by shrinkflation earlier this year, after its sharing size bag of Dairy Milk Buttons was reduced from 240g to 184.4g - a 23 per cent reduction.

Shoppers also noticed that Easter eggs were also significantly smaller, yet still priced the same as before.Shrinkflation has become a widespread issue as of recent, as manufacturers battle with soaring wholesale costs.
