A footpath in Irlam was taped off after a teenage girl was reportedly raped in woodland in the early hours of Sunday morning (July 28).

Police were called to reports of the horror sex attack near to the River Irwell Old Course at around 4am. The area was cordoned off by police throughout the morning amid investigations.

A man, aged 23, has been arrested on suspicion of rape and is in custody to be questioned. The victim, whose age has not been disclosed, is being supported by specialist officers. A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "At 4am this morning, we received reports that a teenage girl had been raped in a woodland area near the River Irwell Old Course in Irlam.
