A son who killed his father in a hammer attack after shouting ‘he’s a f****** German’ has been found not guilty on the grounds of insanity.
Colin Neil, 52, was suffering from psychosis caused by undiagnosed epilepsy at the time of the fatal attack on his 82-year-old father John.
Neil ‘adored’ his father and would never have intentionally hurt him, he later told police. Mr Neil’s 79-year-old mother tried to fight her son off as he repeatedly hit her husband over the head with a claw hammer at their home in Timperley last summer.
Despite the not guilty verdict, Mr Neil will remain in Ashworth hospital, the high secure psychiatric hospital in Merseyside, for further treatment.
