UK holidaymakers heading to Europe next summer could face a seven Euro fee - around £6 - to enter up to 30 countries. The European Union has confirmed on its website that it is launching its visa waiver scheme “in the first half of 2025”.

The European Travel Information and Authorisation Scheme (ETIAS) has been delayed multiple times, but it’s finally expected to come into effect next year.

The ETIAS will apply to visitors from over 60 visa-exempt countries which require the authorisation to enter 30 European countries for a short stay - but it doesn’t guarantee entry.

Once an ETIAS is obtained it will be valid for up to three years, or until the passport expires, whichever comes first. It will enable those eligible to visit any of the EU countries for short-term stays, which are up to 90 days in any 180-day period.
