A city centre street has been cordoned off by fire crews following a blaze, with gas and electricity services still on the scene.

Firefighters rushed to Redhill Street in Ancoats at around 6:50am on Thursday morning (May 16) following reports of a fire 'involving underground cables'.

Redhill Street and neighbouring Bengal Street were taped off as crews worked to bring the fire under control and make the area safe.

A cordon remains in place, but fire services have now left the scene.
