A former Greater Manchester Police chief inspector has been cleared of strangling his ex-partner. A jury took less than an hour today to find Mark Warner not guilty of a charge of intentional strangulation, which he denied at a trial.

Mr Warner was accused of attacking his ex-partner at the home they shared in Whitworth, near Rochdale. The former chief inspector for Manchester city centre, Moss Side and Longsight, denied strangling the woman - telling the jury she was the aggressor in a row on July 27, 2022.

The pair had bought the house together after a four year relationship but shortly after they moved in to it, in January 2022, the woman began to distance herself, the jury was told.
