Firefighters sliced a car in half to rescue a man who crashed into a wall after pulling away from police. Emergency services raced out to Castlefield at around 10pm last night (May 30) after a Volkswagen Passat ploughed into a wall, on the junction of Liverpool Road and Water Street.
It came after the Volkswagen was driven off when police attempted to pull the car over. The Manchester Evening News understands police were not in pursuit of the car when it came to its own dramatic halt.
Crews used specialist equipment to release the driver - a man in his 20s - from the battered Volkswagen. Images from the scene show the aftermath of the firefighters' work.
