Elvis Bwomono has lifted the lid on his incredible journey from Uganda to Paisley as he aims to become a star at St Mirren. The Buddies defender told how he left his homeland when he was just a toddler to board a plane and join his siblings in London as their mum and dad embarked on a search for a better life for them all.

The 25-year-old grew up in Harrow, north-west London and spent time as a kid in the youth systems of Arsenal and QPR. He eventually signed for Southend United, rose quickly through the ranks and had a spell in Iceland with IBV before joining Saints in December.Bwomono – who has already impressed in the black and white stripes – reflected on the early days which have helped him carve out a professional football career. “I was born in Uganda and came to England when I was two or three,” he said. “The majority of my family are still out there.

I have played for Uganda so every international game I normally get the chance to see them.“I can remember when I was leaving to come to England vividly.
