Dundee confirm Trevor Carson signing as St Mirren offload wantaway goalkeeper

St Mirren have sold goalkeeper Trevor Carson to Premiership rivals Dundee.The Northern Ireland international surprised many when he made clear his intention to move away from the Saints at the end of the 2022/23 Premiership season.Despite being a mainstay between the sticks and signing a contract extension in March until the summer of 2025, the 35-year-old decided he wanted to leave the Paisley club.While Stephen Robinson has repeatedly stated that no falling out has taken place, the St Mirren board were adamant they wouldn't allow Carson to leave unless their valuation of the keeper was met.And Dundee are understood to have paid an undisclosed fee, believed to be a six-figure sum, to take the goalie to Dens Park - with the move confirmed this afternoon.Carson, who has signed a three-year contract, revealed having former St Mirren skipper Joe Shaughnessy at the club helped persuade him to make the move.Carson told Dundeefc.co.uk: "It’s brilliant to be here, I am very grateful to the manager and everyone involved who has made this deal possible. "It’s the old cliché but I can’t wait to get started.

I had a great conversation with the manager and as soon as I came off the phone, I said I want to play for that man, he talked about the project and the plans he has got here. "It helps that Joe (Shaughnessy) is here too, who I played with last season.

Joe spoke very highly of the place and these things count massively in football.”Robinson moved quickly to replace Carson earlier this summer, signing Zach Hemming on loan from Middlesbrough.

The former Kilmarnock loanee has looked sharp throughout pre-season and in the League Cup. He is set for his first Premiership appearance with the Saints this Sunday when the Paisley side
