After the Princess of Wales vowed that she will “be OK” following her decision to bravely reveal she has been diagnosed with cancer, it became clear that the timing of the announcement was to protect her three young children.

After Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis left the classroom behind on Friday, 22 March to begin their Easter holidays, the princess explained that she has started to undergo “preventative chemotherapy”.This worrying update, which comes after weeks of outlandish and damaging social media conspiracy theories spun out of control, was timed to coincide with a time where the children were away from school and could be together as a family.

In the weeks leading up to the news of the princess' diagnosis, the online world was awash with rumours, but experts quickly heralded Prince William and Kate's silence on the bizarre theories as a move to protect their young children. “It’s hard to see how the children could have been shielded from every headline, every front page, news report and social media storm in this latest frenzy,” former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond told OK!. “I think William and Kate will have talked about how to handle it and no doubt will have told the children as much as they feel they need to know. “I remember only too well talking to Diana about all the headlines and stories her life provoked,” Jennie says, reflecting on her experiences of interviewing Diana, Princess of Wales at Kensington Palace. “Her first concern was always for her boys… to shield them, protect them and to try and stop the news cycle from hurting them.

William, she said, hated the cameras… but she added that he would have to get used to them. And he has. But on his own terms.” Royal author.
