Daisy Hill bridge in Westhoughton 'could be closed to traffic' after government rejects £2.5 million funding bid

Bolton Council funding bid. The Town Hall asked the Department for Transport (DfT) for £2.5 million to go towards re-decking the bridge at Daisy Hill Railway Station, in Leigh Road, Westhoughton.

Bolton Council and Network Rail were each also prepared to put £250,000 towards the project. In the application, Bolton Council indicated that if funding was not granted, then the bridge would have to be completely closed, or a 3.5 tonne weight limit would have to be enforced.Bolton Council said that they are still seeking funding and that no concrete decisions can be made on the bridge's future for the time being.A council spokesman said: “We are currently awaiting Network Rail completing testing and cannot make any decisions until we have that.
