King Charles and Queen Camilla have begun making their way to Westminster Abbey in a lavish procession flanked by members of the armed forces.

The monarch and his wife set out from Buckingham Palace at 10:20am in the Diamond Jubilee State Coach, a stunning horse drawn carriage that was only recently brought into service in 2014.

Accompanied by The Sovereign’s Escort of the Household Cavalry, the coach will travel down The Mall via Admiralty Arch, along the south side of Trafalgar Square, along Whitehall and Parliament Street, around the east and south sides of Parliament Square to Broad Sanctuary to arrive at the Abbey.

Unlike the Gold State Coach, which will be used for their return to the palace after the ceremony, the black and fold Diamond Jubilee carriage offers a far smoother journey for the couple, as it features six hydraulic stabilisers to stop it from swaying along with air conditioning.
