Cormac McCarthy has sadly died. The award-winning author, perhaps best known for No Country for Old Men, as well as All the Pretty Horses and The Road, passed away at the age of 89, according to the Washington Post. Keep reading to find out more… He was known for graphic violence, as well as his uniquely sparse use of punctuation and attribution, and is considered one of the greats among American writers.
The Tommy Lee Jones-led 2008 film adaptation of No Country for Old Men won Oscars for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Supporting Actor.
His first novel, The Orchard Keeper, was published in 1965. It wasn’t until 1992′s All the Pretty Horses, and the subsequent 2000 film adaptation, that he began to have mainstream success.
The film starred Matt Damon and Penelope Cruz, directed by Billy Bob Thornton.
