A busy market was evacuated after shoppers complained of being 'affected by fumes'. But, when firefighters investigated the cause they found it was caused by a stall-holder 'cooking a large amount of chillies'.

Emergency services were called to Chester market on Saturday morning. Fire chiefs say the market was evacuated 'as a precaution' but say they are 'no wider public health concerns'.

In a statement Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Firefighters and other emergency services are at the scene of Chester Market after reports of customers being affected by fumes. "Investigation has revealed that this was due to the cooking of a large amount of chillies at a market premises and be reassured there are no wider public health concerns. "The market has been evacuated as a precaution but emergency services are working to get the market back to normal operations as soon as possible."
