Aldi has managed to hold onto its title as the cheapest supermarket across the country for July - as shoppers could save over £33 compared to the priciest option.
The budget German grocer took the top spot in the latest Which? price comparison. The consumer watchdog has been helping shoppers get the best value by comparing prices at eight of the UK's largest supermarkets each month.Based on a basket of 65 items that included groceries and household essentials, Aldi was found to be the most affordable with an average total of £113.87.
That's just slightly cheaper than last month where the supermarket's total was £118.41.The latest Which? price results mean that Aldi has been the most affordable supermarket across the country for the entire year so far However, fellow German rival Lidl remains closely behind in second place with a total of £116.24 - just a £2.37 between the two stores.Meanwhile, Waitrose also managed to hold onto its own crown as the most expensive supermarket.
The premium chain's total for the same 65 items came to £146.98 - meaning it is £33.11 more expensive than Aldi. Aldi's prices are also offering shoppers a cheaper option compared to major loyalty deals offered from both Tesco and Sainsbury's.
