Tory chancellor Rishi Sunak has been dismissed as the “dude from Silicon Valley” who blamed a government computer systems for failing to increase benefits in line with inflation.In a Commons debate on Labour plans to impose a windfall tax on energy giants, Labour’s Ed Miliband tore into the government’s reluctance to do anything about the cost of living crisis facing millions of families.Tory MPs were ordered to vote against Labour’s amendment that would tax the profits of oil giants in order to make a £600 payment to households facing rising energy bills.In a brutal put down of Sunak’s refusal to tackle rising household costs, the former Labour leader said the chancellor was as useful as the failed cryptocoin currency.The Tories, Miliband said, blamed anyone but themselves for rising inflation, food and energy prices.Miliband told MPs: “Here is a roll call of the people the party opposite are tying to frame - the Bank of England, civil servants working from home, shamefully, the British people being unable to cook properly.
