The warning comes following news that inflation has reached an all time high of nine percent, according to the Office of National Statistics on Wednesday (May 18). Today’s inflation numbers are driven by the energy price cap rise in April, which in turn is driven by higher global energy prices." The chancellor also warned that the government 'cannot protect people completely' from the issues ahead but did promise 'significant support where we can'.
