Hamilton- was ‘acquired through trade in sugar and tobacco from the West Indies’, according to South Ayrshire Council’s website.But one activist says its whole history should be made a permanent exhibition on the grounds.William Fleming, 24, is keen to “ensure that the history of Rozelle is told in an historically-correct and respectful way” including how the Hamilton family acquired their wealth through slave ownership.The former Carrick Academy pupil, who grew up in Maybole, said: “I just want people to recognise and discuss these aspects.
