A boy aged 14 has been charged with the murder in Manchester of 14-year-old Nathaniel Shani, police said today. The teenager can't be named for legal reasons because of his age, but is set to appear before a judge at Manchester Crown Court on Tuesday.

The schoolboy died following reports of a stabbing at Tavistock Square in Harpurhey, north Manchester, on Friday, September 15.

Emergency services were called out to the scene at around 6.05pm. Nathaniel was rushed to hospital after being treated by paramedics, but he later died from his injuries. "A 14-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has been remanded to appear at Manchester Magistrates Court today (Monday 18 September 2023). "A further hearing will take place at Manchester Crown Square Court tomorrow.

The charge relates to the fatal stabbing of Nathaniel Shani on Friday 15 September 2023 on Tavistock Square in Harpurhey. "A 13-year-old boy who was also arrested on suspicion of murder has been released on bail." In a tribute released after his death, his family said: "Nathaniel was a best friend to many, he never failed to make people laugh.
