Beyoncé’s dad Matthew Knowles is reacting to her country album not receiving any nominations at the 2024 CMA Awards.

The 43-year-old entertainer’s album Cowboy Carter, which made history after it spent four weeks on top of Billboard’s Top country albums chart, making her the first Black woman to achieve the feat, was noticeably snubbed from the awards show, despite qualifying for categories like single of the year, song of the year, album of the year, female vocalist of the year and music event of the year.

In a new interview, Matthew admitted that he’s not entirely surprised that Beyoncé was snubbed. Keep reading to find out more…Matthew told TMZ that despite Cowboy Carter being one of the biggest country albums of the year, voters are “showing it still comes down to white and black.” “There’s more white people in America and unfortunately they don’t vote based on ability and achievements, it’s still sometimes a white and black thing,” he added. Matthew went on to say that he isn’t calling CMA voters racist, but did note that Beyoncé‘s snub “speaks for itself.” He also said that the decision-makers at the CMAs are taking a negative position when it comes to Beyoncé, but said it’s no surprise considering the “current state of American culture.” “In America, there’s no accountability for people not being accepting of other cultures,” he added.

The 58th Annual CMA Awards broadcasts live from Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena Wednesday, November 20 starting 8 p.m. ET on ABC and next day on Hulu.
