EastEnders fans were left in tears on Thursday night's episode as Whitney Dean bid farewell to the BBC One soap after a 16-year stint. It was announced last year that actress Shona McGarty, who plays Whitney, had decided to leave the popular series.
Since her first appearance in 2008, Whitney has been at the centre of numerous dramatic plotlines. Most recently, she was devastated to learn that her partner and father of her newborn baby Dolly, Zack Hudson, had been unfaithful with her friend Lauren Branning, reports the Mirror.Following this heartbreak, Whitney made the decision to leave Walford for good on Thursday, taking newborn Dolly and foster daughter Britney Wainwright with her.
She revealed plans to move to Wakefield to be closer to her brother Ryan Malloy. Initially overwhelmed by the significant change, Whitney found comfort when her adoptive mother Bianca Jackson offered to accompany her.
Later in the episode, Whitney informed Zack about her departure plans, leaving him distraught. In response to learning that Bianca would be joining her, he dropped the bombshell that Bianca had known all along about his affair with Lauren and had kept it a secret.Whitney was devastated to discover Bianca's betrayal and subsequently rescinded her invitation to Wakefield.
