Approval for latest stage of East Airdrie link road development

Approval has been granted for the next stage of development of the £185 million East Airdrie link road, including a revised funding arrangement for the increased cost of the 10-kilometre route.

Members of the Glasgow city region city deal cabinet have now agreed the outline business case for the new road from Chapelhall to Riggend, which will provide access to the site of the new Monklands Hospital, due to open in 2031.They have also agreed to reallocate an additional £50m – originally intended for upgrading three kilometres of road from Ravenscraig to Holytown to dual carriageway – to create the new Airdrie road after costs more than doubled from the original £85m estimated a decade ago.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.
