Apple Reinstates Epic Games Developer Account for Sweden, Paving Way for ‘Fortnite’ on iOS in Europe

Todd Spangler NY Digital Editor UPDATE, 3/8, 1:15 p.m. ET: In an about-face, Apple restored Epic Games‘ developer account for Sweden, two days after terminating it over what the tech giant said was Epic’s “egregious breach of its contractual obligations to Apple.” Epic said Apple’s reversal will allow it proceed with plans to launch battle-royale game “Fortnite” and the Epic Games Store in European countries.

Epic, in an update Friday, said, “Apple has told us and committed to the European Commission that they will reinstate our developer account.

This sends a strong signal to developers that the European Commission will act swiftly to enforce the Digital Markets Act and hold gatekeepers accountable.

We are moving forward as planned to launch the Epic Games Store and bring Fortnite back to iOS in Europe. Onward! An Apple rep said in a statement to Variety, “Following conversations with Epic, they have committed to follow the rules, including our DMA policies.
