Anas Sarwar appeals to SNP voters to back Labour and help bring change at next general election

Anas Sarwar has made a direct pitch to SNP voters to urge them to back his party at the next general election to help kick the Tories out of power.Speaking to a 500-strong audience of party members, business leaders and journalists at the SEC in Glasgow today, he said: "If you want Scotland's voice at the heart of the next government, vote Scottish Labour".With his party buoyed by another two by-election victories in England last night, the Glasgow MSP claimed it was only Labour who could "bring hope back into politics".Sarwar also attacked the SNP for making workers earning £28,500 or more in Scotland pay more income tax than elsewhere in the UK, claiming Humza Yousaf was not standing up for Scots struggling to make ends meet.But he offered a conciliatory message to independence supporters.The Scottish Labour leader said: "Over the last three years, I have been clear that I will not turn my back on any voter."I will not close my eyes or shut my ears."So, I say directly to people - I don't care how you voted in the past.

I don't care how you voted in either referendum."I don’t support independence, and I don’t support another referendum. But I understand why people want to run a million miles away from this rotten Tory government."So while we may disagree on the final destination for Scotland, I believe we can all agree we need change right now."So let’s go on this part of the journey together and deliver that change and get rid of this Tory government.
