Young Ukrainians in Dumfriesshire are picture perfect

Young Dumfriesshire filmmakers have been praised for their short film which reflects their early memories of nature and how these experiences have helped shape their emotions and perspectives.In Nature, a five-minute short created by seven young Scots and Ukrainians from Annan – Callum McDougall, Pavlo Novikov, Anastasiia Kvitko, Shaima Sheikh, Yehor Fokin, Yuliia Yashkina and Anna Romanyuk – was made under the guidance of documentary filmmaker John Wallace.Capturing their connection to the natural world, it is set against Port Street, Annan Harbour, and Annan Water, with social media for the project achieved by another young person, Veronika Yashkina.The film was shown as part of the inaugural ImMerse festival weekend in Annan to rave reviews, with Anna, Yuliia and Anastasiia also taking part in a panel discussion.Council Leader, Councillor Gail Macgregor, has praised the film saying it was “made by talented local young people who care deeply about their local environment.”Yuliia said: “Making In Nature really showed me a new way we can help make the world better.

By supporting nature, we can preserve the beauty and diversity of our planet. It was great fun talking and filming with everyone about nature.”
