Winter gritter naming appeal returns as Kevin Fridges and Taylor Drift join road-clearing fleet

Lanarkshire residents have their annual opportunity to suggest inventive names for the area’s road gritting vehicles as this year’s wintry weather takes hold.

Trunk roads maintenance company Amey South-West is again running its popular annual appeal for suggestions to name its fleet – with new entries joining the locally-inspired Irn Bru and Tunnock’s vehicles, Grits You Through and Caramelt Wafer.New additions to the fleet this winter include gritters named for Scottish comedian Kevin Fridges, movie star Keanu Freeze and singers Skate Bush and Taylor Drift.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.

Last year’s competition attracted 4000 suggestions, with winners including Snowing Me Snowing You and Sir David Attenbrrrrrr taking to the road alongside existing favourites Buzz Iceclear, Grittin’ On Wae It and Yes Sir, Ice Can Boogie.
