Cynthia Onyedinmanasu Chinasaokwu Erivo (born 8 January 1987) is an English actress, singer, and songwriter.

She is known for her performance as Celie in the Broadway revival of The Color Purple, for which she won the 2016 Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical, the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Actress in a Musical, the Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album, and the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Musical Performance in a Daytime Program, the latter two she shared with the rest of the cast.

Erivo ventured into films in 2018, with roles in the heist film Widows and the thriller Bad Times at the El Royale. In 2019, she portrayed abolitionist Harriet Tubman in the biopic Harriet, for which she earned nominations for an Academy Award, a Golden Globe Award, and a Screen Actors Guild Award.

‘Wicked’ Behind-the-Scenes Special to Air on NBC Ahead of Movie Premiere

Selome Hailu NBC will air a behind-the-scenes special about “Wicked” on Nov. 19 at 10 p.m., just ahead of the film’s Nov. 22 theatrical release date.

Titled “Defying Gravity: The Curtain Rises on Wicked,” the special features Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo, Michelle Yeoh, Jeff Goldblum, Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, Bowen Yang and Marissa Bode, who all star in “Wicked,” as they “share personal memories, intimate video diaries and revealing secrets about their personal journeys through the making of the Universal Pictures film.” The special was filmed on the set of “Wicked” and will also include a scene from the film that has not yet been scene.

Throughout the one-hour telecast, NBC and Peacock will air “‘Wicked’ inspired content” from brand sponsors Lexus and Target during commercial breaks. “Defying Gravity: The Curtain Rises on Wicked” is produced by Monkey, which is part of Universal International Studios.
