The World Health Organisation has sounded the alarm over a lethal superbug discovered in 16 countries that poses a threat even to healthy individuals.According to The Sun, this drug-resistant bacterium is capable of causing severe and rapidly progressing infections, with cases reported across Europe, Africa, the East Mediterranean, Western Pacific, American and South-East Asia."It can cause severe invasive infections in healthy individuals that develop quickly and spread to various body sites," stated the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy (CIDRAP)."Infections caused by hvKp strains have been associated with high morbidity and mortality."WHO has identified a particularly aggressive strain known as sequence type (ST)23, which dominates other gut bacteria."It is expected that there will be an increased risk of spread of these strains at both the community and hospital levels," WHO warned.Countries where this alarming strain has been detected include Algeria, Argentina, Australia, Canada, India, Iran, Japan, Oman, Philippines, Switzerland, Thailand, and the United Kingdom. The well-known Klebsiella pneumoniae (Kp), resistant to antibiotics, is notorious for causing significant issues in hospitals by contaminating medical equipment and leading to pneumonia, urinary tract infections (UTIs), bloodstream infections, and meningitis. However, experts are warning that this new strain is even more dangerous as it doesn't just affect the vulnerable - it can also impact healthy individuals.Earlier this year, Brits were alerted to a new disease that humanity is 'unprepared for' - one that could be far more devastating than Covid-19, with a death toll 20 times higher.World Health Organisation (WHO) chief, Tedros Adhanom
