It's only natural for the founder, CEO, and creative director of the lab-grown jewelry brand, , who grew up watching her grandmother, Dorsey, do the same. “She was a real jewelry collector,” tells Glamour. “She had the closet everyone wanted and this incredible way of wearing jewelry that was just for herself.”With Dorsey as the impetus and inspiration behind the brand, Strachan, who has accumulated 18 years of executive experience working at leading fashion and lifestyle brands—, , , , —wanted to bring heirloom-inspired jewelry to modern consumers at accessible prices. “I was in my early 30s at the time and I wasn’t buying these huge diamonds,” she says of the brand she founded in 2019. “There was a massive [gap in the market] where at Dorsey we could create these heritage and archive-inspired jewels that I realized I, and other women, wanted to wear every day”—without having to drop thousands of dollars in the process.Four years after Dorsey's debut—the early ones she says were spent packing orders in her garage and driving packages to USPS on her own—Strachan has built the kind of era-defining brand many attempt but few succeed at.
Her most in-demand piece? A timeless, 3mm made from lab-grown sapphires with a starting price of $370. Fashion editors and stylists can namecheck a Dorsey rivière when they see one.
