New Ayr United assistant Steven Whittaker enjoyed many a big day at the national stadium as a player. And along with Somerset gaffer Scott Brown, he will kick off his chapter in the Ayr dugout with the trip to face Queen's Park today. The duo have had just two days on the training pitch with their new players trying to implement their gameplan and setting out the standards they want met.

Whittaker admits the reputation of new boss Brown may go before him for many, but insists there's a very different side than the intimidating on field presence who enjoyed a glittering playing career at the top of the Scottish game.He has told how Broony knows there's a time for play and a time for hard graft - and Ayr's squad are about to find that out as they begin life under their new boss at Hampden today.Whittaker revealed: "People have their own ideas of what Scott is like as a person.

He had a certain image on the pitch as a player and if that’s how people know him then that’s how they’ll see him. He had his own style and his own way and he was very successful with it.“But if you get to know the real Scott Brown, he’s very different.

He’s very generous, very thoughtful about other people and he looks after the people who matter most to him. We’re very similar in the way we think about the game."We’ve both worked at a good level under similar managers.
