Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has been handed a one-match touchline ban and fined £5,500 for misconduct following his red card in Plymouth Argyle's dramatic win over Blackburn Rovers.

The former striker was sent off during the latter stages of their encounter at Home Park, on October 5, after reacting angrily to Rovers' equaliser.

Rooney felt that Ryan Hardie had been fouled in the build-up to the goal before venting his feelings which saw fourth official Jacob Miles call over referee James Linnington.

Rooney accepted the charge and will be in the stands for Argyle's trip to Championship strugglers, Cardiff City on Saturday (12:30pm kick-off).
