Vernon Kay has opened up about a new move away from his BBC duties, which has been backed by his wife Tess Daly and their two daughters.

The 50-year-old presenter will be returning to the stage this December, starring in the family favourite pantomime Aladdin. Opening up about his role, the host said Tess, 53, and their daughters Phoebe, 19, and Amber, 14, encouraged him to go for it.

He shared: "Yep, they'll be coming along. I think the last time I did it, the kids were there every other show. "Our eldest daughter knew the words better than me!

She came out socialising with the cast and all that kind of stuff, and that was really good. "And that's one of the main reasons why I'm coming back and doing it again, because we had a big family meeting and I said, 'What do you think about panto?' And it was unanimous, all the kids and Tess were like, 'Yep, you've got to do it'. "I think if the cast are enjoying it then the audience are definitely enjoying it. "We've got a great cast this year with myself and La Voix and a bunch of great talented West End kids, who are used to being on stage. "I think pantomime just gets better and better." Tess and Vernon, who married back in 2003, are no strangers to supporting each other through their respective work commitments.
