A decision on whether to approve Covid jabs for children as young as five is expected before Christmas, the head of the JCVI has said.
Professor Wei Shen Lim, chair of the Covid-19 panel of the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI), said the group was actively discussing whether or not children as young as five should be offered a coronavirus vaccine.
The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) is currently assessing whether or not it will approve vaccines for use in children aged five to 11.
It comes after health chiefs approved a first dose of the vaccine for children aged 12 to 15. And all adults over 18 are now eligible to get a booster jab, as the fight against Omicron continues.
