Thousands of homes across Tameside were left without electricity following a power cut this morning. More than 2,800 properties were affected after electrical wiring caught fire in Arundel Street, Mossley, today (Monday).

The blaze, which was the result of a faulty underground cable, also caused damage to a section of pavement on the street. Firefighters and engineers from Electricity North West attended the scene and a cordon was put in place.

Power has since been restored to all of the impacted properties.
