The NHS has issued a list of symptoms for people who live near to Trafford Park to look out for after the chemical leak. Police declared a major incident at the Lanxess plant in Tenax Road, Trafford on Monday (March 4) after a cloud of phosphorous oxychloride leaked from the plant, it is understood.
The chemical is a colourless to pale yellow, fuming, oily liquid with a strong odour. It is used as a chlorinating agent and in making semiconductors, gasoline additives, plasticizers, and organophosphorus compounds such as pesticides. READ MORE This is what caused the chemical leak which started major incident in Trafford Park A dozen fire engines and a fleet of ambulances attended the scene and local residents and office workers were warned to keep their windows shut.
A huge 300m cordon was put in place for a number of hours amid investigations, with a number of emergency services vehicles remaining at the scene, including incident response units.
The incident was stood down at around 3.30pm on Monday (March 4) after police revealed the chemical leak will be contained within the industrial site where it will be safely dissipated.
