Boris Johnson
Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson Hon FRIBA (born 19 June 1964) is a British politician, writer, and former journalist serving as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and Leader of the Conservative Party since 2019. He was Foreign Secretary from 2016 to 2018 and Mayor of London from 2008 to 2016. Johnson was Member of Parliament for Henley from 2001 to 2008 and has been MP for Uxbridge and South Ruislip since 2015. Ideologically, Johnson identifies as a one-nation conservative.

If a picture paints a thousand words, then this image of the electoral map in Greater Manchester sums up the results of last night’s General Election better than I ever could.

The Tories were wiped out across the region, losing every seat - including the stronghold of Altrincham. Labour won 25 constituencies in Greater Manchester, with the Lib Dems winning the other two.

It comes just four and a half years after Boris Johnson led the Tories to victory, turning many of Labour's northern heartlands such as Heywood and Midddleton, Leigh and Bury South blue.

But the Conservatives have now lost those red wall seats with two MPs who were ousted in 2019 re-elected. The Conservatives were pushed into third place in Leigh with Labour's Jo Platt beating second-place Reform by nearly 9,000 votes.
